and - the blood of over 15,000 dogs killed in this city every year.
While these dogs are being intentionally bred - over and over again - and sold to hundreds of unsuspecting buyers, thousands of dogs are dying in our shelter system. Dogs, puppies, full-blooded dogs, beautiful mixed breeds, Lassie's, Old Yeller's, Beagles, Chows, you name it - we kill it. The 4 dogs you see in the banner above, were pulled from our shelters and adopted outside the shelter system. Otherwise, there was a 60% chance that they would have been killed - cold and alone.
These doggie concoctions are bred to be cute - but often suffer from health problems, behavior issues and developmental problems. Their parents suffer in cages their entire lives and many die from being over bred - or simply killed when their breeding days are numbered.
If you long for something cute and cuddly, that requires no exercise, doesn't need to be walked or let outside in the cold weather - a new designer dog is not going to fit the bill. Once the slaughter ends in the shelters, and dogs and cats stop living their lives in cages - then, and only then can we afford to intentionally bring more dogs and cats into this world.
